Born in 1961, Oya Tuncalı is a 1984 honours graduate of Business Administration Department of Middle East Technical University. She began her career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a 3rd Secretary working at the Political Affairs Department. Later on she moved onto the Protocol Department, Department of Social and Cultural Affairs and Department of Consular Affairs.

In 1987 she attended a month long course called ‘‘International Relations and Diplomacy’’ held at the Turkish Foreign Ministry Academy for young diplomats. Between 1988 – 1990 she worked in charge of the Turkish Cypriots Living Abroad Desk. In 1990 she successfully completed the two months long work period at the Cyprus Desk of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ankara.

In 1994 she graduated from Eastern Mediterranean University with a degree of Master of Business Administration. Between 1994-1998 and 2002-2003 she has given various courses such as ’’Organizational Behaviour’’, ‘‘International Trade Relations’’, ‘‘Marketing Management’’ and ‘‘Principles of Management’’ at the Near East University on part time basis.

In 1998 she became a Deputy Director/Consul General. On 1st of August 1998, she was appointed from Ministry of Foreign Affairs to The Turkish Republic of Norther Cyprus London Representative Office as Consul General. After returning back to Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 1st September 2001, she worked at the Department of Consular Affairs. In 2004, she actively took part on the technical committee during the negotiation process of the United Nations’ Annan Plan. During 2005-2010, she was the Consul General at TRNC Mersin Consulate. She returned back to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in August of 2010 as the Director of the Department of Consular Affairs.

Mrs Tuncalı took up her post as the TRNC London Ambassador/ Representative on 10th of February 2012. She is married and has two children.
